Baked Mini Slider Party Sandwiches by Kendall Oberto

Here is my riff on the classic Hawaiian roll mini sliders. I have zipped up the spices just a bit and added some brined / pickled vegetables for a little tang. For parties I typically make 1/2 a batch each ham and turkey for variety but obviously you can use one or the other.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 1/2 tbsp Dijon mustard + extra to spread on bread
  • 1 1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp poppy seeds
  • 1/4 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp everything bagel seasonings + extra for sprinkling
  • 24 mini sandwich rolls (see note)
  • 3/4 pound thinly sliced cooked deli ham
  • 3/4 pound thinly sliced deli turkey
  • 1 pound thinly sliced deli cheese (Provolone or Swiss)
  • 1/2 cup sliced peperoncini peppers (to pair with ham and cheese), optional
  • 1/2 cup marinated artichokes sliced thin (to pair with turkey and cheese), optional

Instructions

  • Gather all ingredients. Preheat the oven to 350° (175°C).
    Grease a 10×14-inch baking dish.
Mix butter, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and seasonings in a bowl.
Slice the rolls crosswise to separate the tops from the bottoms leaving the rolls attached. Arrange the bottom pieces in a layer in the prepared baking dish and spread with a thin layer of mustard. Layer about 1/2 of the ham onto 12 of the rolls and 1/2 of the turkey on the other 12. Add a layer of cheese and top with remaining meats. Add peperoncini to ham rolls and artichoke hearts to turkey rolls (if using) then top with another layer of cheese.
Place the tops of the rolls onto the sandwiches. Pour mustard mixture over the rolls and use a pastry brush to distribute evenly. Sprinkle over a bit more everything bagel seasoning. Cover pan with foil.
Bake in the preheated oven about 10 minutes, remove foil and bake another 10-15 min until cheese is melted and rolls are golden brown. Slice into individual sandwiches to serve.
    NOTES
The traditional bread for these is King's Hawaiian rolls. I tend to use the sweet Hawaiian flavor for ham and the savory butter flavor for the turkey but both are good for either.
