This recipe isn't difficult and it is very versatile. I used strawberry jam in middle of these sugar cookies, however, you can use chocolate ganache or Nutella, any other jelly or jam, or sprinkles. They have that "WOW" factor but the dough is soft and taste wonderful. I also added powder sugar dusting to make them look extra special. P.S. You use this recipe for just regular sugar cookies cut outs for any holiday.
Ingredients
- 2/3 cup shortening or butter (softened)
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 egg
- 4-5 tsp milk
- 2 cup flour
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp salt
Instructions
- Use a hand mixer or stand mixer and cream together the shortening or butter whatever you are using. Add the sugar and mix well-then add the vanilla and egg.Meanwhile, mix the flour, salt, & baking powder in another bowl- then with the mixer running slowly add the flour mixture and mix until the dough comes together. Then divide the dough into two and flatten into a disc and wrap it in a plastic bag and seal it. Chill in the refrigerator for an hour. Heat the oven to 350° Take dough out and flour a clean surface of your counter and roll the dough to 1/8 thick. Use any cookie cutter you want and transfer the cut out to a parchment lined cookie sheet. When you finish cutting the last cookie gather the dough and re-roll it out again until you don't have any more dough to roll out. One cookie sheet place just the regular cut out cookie the second cookie sheet is for the cutouts you are cutting the middle out of with a smaller cut out. Take a smaller cutout and place in the middle of the cookies on the second sheet and then bake those. Do this so you can set the second cookie on top of the other full cookie and you can see the jam or chocolate through the small cut out. Bake the cookies for 5 minutes then switch the cookie trays and bake another 6 minutes. HAPPY EATING!!
