My mother passed away last fall and I inherited her recipes. Her recipes are typewritten on index cards organized in a Recipe Card Holder. Over the last few months, I walked down memory lane going through her recipes telling stories to my husband and children about the recipes I found; such as she would make delicious cheese souffle at least once during Lent; or how she would always overcook the beef stew. I shared one of her recipes and my memory here on HOB when I found her recipe for the Decadent Hot Chocolate! Then I found her recipe for Cherry Bounce and knew I had to make it and serve it at her memorial service. As a kid growing up in Wisconsin, every August we drove to Door County and picked cherries. Afterwards, my sisters and I helped my mom clean, de-stem and de-seed the cherries. Then she would combine the cherries and other ingredients in a big jar and let it sit on a shelf until she served the adult beverage as Cherry Bounce for our Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations. So, in May, I made Cherry Bounce, using her recipe and served it to our family and friends at my mom’s memorial service this past weekend. My sisters got a little choked up on the memories of the years helping her prepare the cherries and enjoyed a glass of it during our final toast to mom.
