On recent trip to visit my second daughter, Lizzy I was able to see the quaint town in California, she lives in and catch a glimpse of the ocean views.
I choose some fun, slightly western, very upscale casual outfits to bring with me. Here is why I’m happy with my outfit choice and how to recreate it for yourself with my 3 step-system.

California was surprisedly more chilly than I anticipated so when evening hit I didn’t have any problem pulling out my new Anthropologie “Twofer” dress. A sweater and dress combo, that couldn’t have been more perfect for the California evening weather. I took a Lack of Color rancher hat and styled it all with turquoise jewelry and Frye Harness boots.

I get a lot of questions on “what to wear” to many different occasions so decided to share my 3 step system for YOU to put great outfits together anywhere, anytime.
- Define the occasion/mood/canvas:
Ask the why? What is the occasion or vibe? (Casual, workplace, dinner, outdoors, vacation)
Set the mood: What feeling do you want the outfit to convey? (Effortless, polished, boho, edgy)
Choose the canvas: Start with a base color or main piece that anchors the look. This is your reference point for the whole outfit.

2. Build the core color and texture of the outfit:
Color: Choose a dominate color aim for harmony
Texture balance: Mix fabrics with different textures to add depth
Proportion check: Balance the top and bottom to fit your silhouette. If one piece is more voluminous, pair it with something fitted, and vice versa.

3. Accessorize for narrative and function:
Accessories tell the story: Choose 1-2 pieces that finish the look and convey the setting or mood.
Practically matters: Consider weather, terrain, and comfort
Point of interest: Let one accessory be the focal point

Putting together a great outfit doesn’t have to be overwhelming.
This simple 3-step system helps you create cohesive, camera ready, beautiful looks in minutes. Whether you are strolling in sunny California with your family or navigating a busy work week in the office, this approach helps you be yourself when you dress, be comfortable, and be fashionable.
