Conquering Hyrox: Our Amazing & Unforgettable Mixed Doubles Experience in Las Vegas by Erin Schindler

This past Saturday, my husband (Chef Jim) and I had the incredible opportunity to compete in a Hyrox event in Las Vegas. As a mixed doubles team in the 50-59 year old age group, we were excited to test our limits and see how we stacked up against other athletes in our category.

What is Hyrox?
For those that are unfamiliar with the race, Hyrox is a unique fitness competition that combines running
with functional workout stations.

Participants run 1km, followed by a functional workout station, and repeat this sequence eight times. The workout stations include challenging exercises like the SkiErg, sled pushes, burpee broad jumps, rowing, and ends it with 100 wall balls. It’s a fun and true test of endurance, strength, and mental toughness. The goal is to, of course finish, but to finish as fast as you can!

I am a part of the Alpha community at Lifetime Fitness in St Louis Park, MN.

Almost 60 of us from Minnesota traveled to Vegas for the event. Jim and I had been training for months with this awesome community, focusing on building our endurance and mastering the various workout stations. The atmosphere at the event was electric, with athletes from all over the world coming together to compete and support each other. There were even some huge names there from the Crossfit world and of course the Hyrox world.

You can compete solo or on a team. Competing in the mixed doubles category added an extra layer of
fun and camaraderie to the event. My husband and I worked together seamlessly, encouraging each
other through each grueling station. The highlight of our race was definitely the sled push, where we
managed to maintain a steady pace and I was able to actually move it!! It was 335lbs.

We were thrilled to finish 8th overall in our age group! It was a proud moment for both of us, knowing
that our hard work and dedication had paid off. The sense of accomplishment we felt crossing the finish
line was indescribable. We are already talking about our next Hyrox race together, where can shave
off some time!!

One of the best parts of the Hyrox experience was the sense of community. Everyone, from the
organizers to the fellow competitors, were incredibly supportive and encouraging. It truly felt like we
were part of a larger fitness family, all striving to achieve our personal bests.

No matter your fitness level or age, this is a competition for EVERYONE! If you’re considering taking on a Hyrox challenge, we highly recommend it. It’s an experience like no other, and you’ll come away with a sense of achievement and a newfound appreciation for your own strength and resilience.
