Dr. Mark Hyman’s Whole-Food Protein Shake

Recently I did a 10 detox. Generally, I don't do cleanses or detox programs however, I did "Dr.Mark Hyman's 10-day detox" but I approached the program differently. I used the main recipes and food lists to implement into my life FOR GOOD, not just 10 days. This protein shake is one of the recipes I will be having daily from now on, it is delicious and satisfying. I've added my changes to the shake as well, by using parentheses.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup frozen blueberries
  • 1/2 cup frozen cranberries
  • 1/2 organic lemon (I used 1/2 instead of 1/4 of a lemon)
  • 1 tbsp almond butter
  • 1 tbsp pumpkin seeds
  • 1 tbsp chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp hemp seeds
  • 2 raw walnuts (used a bit more, use however many you like)
  • 2 raw Brazil nuts
  • 1/4 avocado (I used a whole avocado)
  • 1/2 tbsp extra virgin coconut butter (organic)
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond or hemp milk
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions

  • Combine all of the ingredients in a blender, vitamix, or magic bullet and blend on high speed until smooth. Make sure to add enough water so the shake is drinkable. You can make it thicker and eat it with a spoon. I like to make extra and have it as a snack in the afternoon instead of sweet treats.
Note: To activate the enzymes in the seeds and nuts in any smoothie recipe for easier digestion, you can soak them ahead of time. Fill a bowl with enough water to cover the seeds or nuts and soak for 30 minutes or overnight if time permits.
    Happy Eating!!
