“Perfectly Imperfect”

Perfection should not be your goal when it comes to health and fitness; consistency is.

By embracing the “perfectly imperfect” motto, we can approach our wellness journey more sustainably. Diet and exercise can be overwhelming.

After 3 decades of being a personal trainer, I’ve seen everything and the number one thing I’ve observed is people get caught in the cycle of extreme workout plans and eating goals to chasing perfection that doesn’t exist.

What if I told you that the key to sustainable health and wellness is adopting the “perfectly imperfect” attitude?

Here are a couple of ways you can start easing yourself into the “perfectly imperfect” mind set.

Being flexible about your workout routine.

Life is unpredictable, and your fitness routine should be too. If you are running around all day and you don’t have time for a full hour workout get in a a walk, get in 15 minutes of sit-ups/push-ups, walk on the treadmill for 10 minutes. I guarantee if you tell yourself that you are only walking for 10 minutes on a treadmill you will end up walk farther than 10. minutes.

If you get injured or take a week off from working out all your fitness isn’t lost. You are more likely to get back in the gym and feel more refreshed and less burned out. If you workout all year long consider yourself a year long athlete and you need breaks to promote long-term goals.

Consistency is the backbone of any successful fitness journey.

Rather than aiming for perfection in every meal you eat or in the workout you do, focus on building habits and systems that help you to maintain your consistency. Making small healthy food choices, committing to attainable fitness routines most of the time, and not beating yourself up when you eat the piece of cake or skip the workout. The key is not to make eating cake and not working out your consistent habit.

      Mental-well being.

The pressure to be perfect can lead to stress and anxiety, which can hinder your fitness journey. By approaching the “perfectly imperfect” attitude you allow yourself to enjoy the process rather than focusing on the outcome.

Celebrate your little wins no matter what!!

Write down your workouts and wins it will help you stay motivated and help you to acknowledge your progress when the “imperfect” days hit you.

By embracing the “perfectly imperfect” mindset you give yourself more grace to be human because it is in our imperfections that we find our strength and resilience.

Let’s celebrate each step we take, enjoy our meals we eat, and every workout we complete, knowing that consistency is the real secret to success.
