🌟Starting your day with protein isn’t just about fullness; it’s a strategic move if you are in peri/post menopause.
🌟Everyone wakes up in the morning with a spike of cortisol (to get you out of bed), normally, the hormone estrogen helps naturally lower that cortisol spike.
🌟When you are in peri/post menopause you are losing that estrogen hormone and in turn your body is losing that ability to lower cortisol on its own.
🌟By eating 12-15grams of protein (30 minutes after you’ve awaken) you blunt the cortisol spike and stabilize sugar.

🌟Let’s compare your body to a thermostat: if your estrogen is declining that can raise the set-point for morning cortisol to raise. Protein helps keep the thermostat calmer at a calmer temperature.
🌟Protein doesn’t rewrite your hormones, it helps blunt the spike of cortisol. It slows digestion, stabilizes blood sugar, and reduces sugar cravings later in the day.

🌟In a few days I will have taken 58 trips around the sun and in the last 2 years my hormones have taken a huge dip. By implementing eating 12-15grams of protein 30 minutes after I wake up (especially if I’m going to go workout or train clients), I have had a significant difference in my workouts and energy output. Strength training, lifting heavy weights 2-3 times a week, and 1-2 sprint interval training sessions have made a huge difference in my life.
🌟Small but mighty!! That has been my motto forever. A small change like this can make such an impact on your life. If what you are doing now isn’t working try this simple change. By eating 12-15grams of protein, 30 minutes after you wake up, you support lean muscle mass, steady your energy, and blunt stress signals like cortisol. You let the body know it’s protected and can move on with your day in a calmer internal state.
Food Choices for you to get 12-15grams of protein:
- Greek Yogurt (3/4 cup-12-14grams)
- Eggs (2 large eggs 12grams)
- Cottage cheese (1/2 cup-12grams)
- Protein Powder (I use Ballerina Farm protein powder 1 scoop 24grams in my coffee)
- Protein Bars (I eat MUSH bars-found at Target or Costco in the refrigerated section)
