The Best Apple Crisp

Recipe of the Day (#ROTD)

My Mother and Grandmother made this apple crisp, and I’ve been making this forever. It is incredibly simple to make- however, using the right apples is key to it turning out FABULOUS.

Preheat oven to 350°

Apple Mixture

  • 8 (COOKING) apples (either haralson, cortland, granny smith, or Jonathan apples) sliced thin
  • 1/4 cup sugar & 3 T of cinnamon mixed together
  • 2 T of Flour

Topping

  • 1/2 Cup of butter softened
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of flour
  • 1/2 cup of brown sugar
  • OPTIONAL 1/2 cup of oatmeal

First, slice the apples into a bowl and mix with sugar/cinnamon mixture then add flour and mix well. Transfer that mixture to a 8×12 glass baking dish.

Second, place butter in another bowl and add all of the ingredients for the topping. With a pastry cutter, or two knives, mix the butter in with the sugars to make a course mixture that is well incorporated. Take spoonfuls of the topping mixture and drop them on top of the apples in the baking dish.

Bake the apple crisp for 45 minutes.

Serve with just a drizzle of heavy cream or vanilla ice cream.

Happy Eating!!
