Outfits for a Destination Wedding

Destination weddings can be tricky to plan for. Where is the wedding being held? Is it on the beach? Is it a formal affair? Are there other events attached to the wedding day festivities? Can you mix and match outfits and accessories for the different events?

All of these questions should be considered when planning to attend a destination wedding.

Consider the climate and location. If you are attending a beach wedding plan on wearing lightweight fabrics like linen, cotton, chiffon or silk.

The level of formality should also be considered. If you are attending a resort wedding the attire could be more casual but I always err on the side of being more dressed up than casual.

Shoes should be considered carefully. Stiletto’s heels will sink into the sand if you are attending a beach wedding so opt for block heels or wedges. Cocktail length dresses are the happy medium for a beach wedding they can be dressy and slightly casual all at the same time. Wedding receptions usually carry on into the night, when it can get a little chilly, plan on a lightweight wrap to wear.

I recently attended a destination with two of my three children and my daughter’s boyfriend. The fellas brought linen suits and because it was a slightly casual affair they didn’t wear ties.

Remember to always bring along comfortable shoes (so you can dance the night away).
