So…Want to Try a HYROX?
Over the next several posts, I’m going to take some of the mystery out of it.
I’ll talk about what a HYROX actually is, whether you’re fit enough to do one, how to train, how
to find a partner or team, what race day is really like, and how to get past that little voice
saying, “I’m not ready.”
And if you read the whole series and decide HYROX isn’t for you?
Perfect.

Maybe It’s Time to Try Something New
Have you ever watched someone do something and thought, “I could never do that”?
Maybe it was a HYROX. Maybe it was a 5K. Maybe it was walking into a CrossFit gym for the
first time, signing up for a race, or simply doing something completely outside your comfort
zone.
Here’s my challenge to you:
What if you stopped saying, “I could never do that,” and started asking, “Could I?”
I’ve now completed HYROX races by myself, with my husband, and with a female partner. And I
can tell you this: you do NOT have to be the fastest, the strongest, or the youngest person in the
room to belong there.

One of my favorite sayings is by Henry Ford; Whether you think you can,
or think you can’t- you’re right.
You just have to be willing to start.
And starting can be scary.
I think sometimes we look at people who are already doing these things and forget that they had
a first time too. Everyone who has ever crossed a HYROX finish line had a first HYROX. Every
runner you see at a race once had a first 5K.
They weren’t born knowing how to do it.
They decided to try.

What If HYROX Isn’t Your Thing?
That’s okay!
Maybe your “HYROX” is signing up for your first 5K.
Maybe it’s walking a 5K.
Maybe it’s joining a gym.
Maybe it’s taking a fitness class where you don’t know anyone.
Maybe it’s picking something you’ve always thought was just a little too hard, scary, or outside
your comfort zone.

The goal isn’t HYROX. The goal is to stop letting fear make your decisions for you.
One of the greatest things about trying something new is what happens along the way.
You train.
You meet people.
You struggle.
You improve.
You have days when you wonder why you signed up in the first place.
And then one day, you do the thing you weren’t sure you could do.
That feeling is hard to beat.

What if I’m capable of more than I think I am?
If you read my whole series and decided Hyrox isn’t for you pick something else.

Sign up for the 5K.
Walk the race.
Try the class.
Ask a friend to do it with you.
Set a goal that makes you just uncomfortable enough that you’re not completely sure you can
accomplish it.
Because sometimes the best reason to try something new is simply to find out:

Next up: “I’m Not Fit Enough for HYROX” — and the other things we tell ourselves before
we even start.
